Building a catapult

So we were given a assignment which is to build a catapult using recycle and found materials. So we came up with a sketch of the materials needed and our catapult.

Sketches of some materials we need. 🔨

The final sketch of our catapult ⚾

It took us about 3 days to build this catapult. Below are some pictures,

Work in progress.we first nailed the structure of the catapult and filled the gaps with some pictures glue.

After we finish building the catapult we decided to paint it with white and brown. 🎨

This was the day where we compete with students from other courses, to see which catapult could hit the boxes given. The range of out catapult to the boxes was 10m, unfortunately ours reached 6m only 😶. But we definitely enjoyed building it together. 🙌

Photography Final project

My inspiration for my final project is the freedom to be free.

Here are some of my inspiration:

Visual materials 1.jpg   Visual materials 2.jpg

So here,s my final result. I had decided to use one of my course mates to be my model. This theme suits her really well because, not only she wants to be free, she’s also a nature lover. This photograph also gives you a feeling that you are close to nature.

FINALLY DONE WITH MY FINAL PROJECT….. IT WAS A GOOD EXPERIENCE FOR ME TO UNDERSTAND WHAT SPACE PLANNING IS ALL ABOUT. I STRUGGLED AT THE BEGINNING BECAUSE I HAD NO IDEA ON HOW TO CREATE AN URBAN LANDSCAPE. UNDER MY LECTURERS GUIDANCE, MY IDEAS STARTED TO DEVELOP I HAD ALSO LEARNED A LOT FROM THIS PARTICULAR MODULE. I AM VERY PROUD OF MY SELF.

PROJECT 2

ASSIGNMENT 1 – HUMAN AND URBAN LANDSCAPE

6 KEY PHRASES ON HUMAN AND URBAN LANDSCAPE.

  • COMPACITY OF ARCHITECTURE
  • HUMAN CULTURE IN THE USE OF SPACE
  • ARCHITECTURE IN RELATION TO HUMAN SCALE
  • CITY LIFESTYLES THAT REPRESENT HUMAN QUANTUM
  • LIVING IN A COMPACT ENVIRONMENT
  • ELEMENTS THAT REPRESEN URRBAN LANDSCAPE

HERE ARE SOME PHOTOGRAPHS TAKEN WHEN WE WERE IN KL.

OUTCOME :

OVERALL IT WAS A GOOD EXPERIENCE. WE GOT THE CHANCE TO OBSERVE THE CITY LANDSCAPES AND UNDERSTAND HOW EVERYTHING WORK TOGETHER AS ONE.

ASSIGNMENT 2- LIGHT & SHADOW

WE ARE REQUIRED TO EXPLORE SHAPES OF SHADOWS CREATED BY STRUCTURES OR BUILDINGS. AFTER COLLECTING DIFFERENT SHAPES OF SHADOWS, CHOOSE ONE AND THEN BY USING THE SHADOW SHAPES TO CREATE A FLOOR PLAN.

PROCESS OF CREATING A FLOOR PLAN

FINAL RESULT

ELIMINATION OF SHAPES WERE DONE TO CREATE MORE SPACE FOR OUR FLOOR PLAN. AFTER WE FINALIZE OUR FLOOR PLAN, WE THEN ADD COLOURS AND TEXTURES.

ASSIGNMENT 3- HUMAN & SPACE

CONTINUATION FROM ASSIGNMENT 2, WE THEN CREATE A 3D RELIEF FROM THE FLOOR PLAN CREATED.

Filming (Week 16&17)

SHOOTING WEEK

Our targets 🎯

 1) Mr Charles

I think he’s the hardest to prank out of the three lecturers, reason being he’s out ctx lecturer.

2) Ms Mary

This is just too random as Ms Mary will not expect us to wear flower crowns during her 7am class. I was so sleepy at that time waiting for her to step into class… 😴

3) Mr Ernesto

He was super calm as always…  I was expecting him to be angry and irritated  be angry as we messed up his class, but he’s not I’m surprised. 😮

Final project process (Week 13&14)

PROPOSAL FOR FINAL VIDEO.

Over view of what we are doing.

Objective of proposal:

1. to organize and present plans to present a contextual statement using a specific video style

2. to opportunities to present the art and design statement in disciplinary context.

3. to incorporate research evidences to support the art and design statement

4. to provide the opportunity to create a self directed brief.

TITLE: Defining the Unexpected

SYNOPSIS: A group of art students create unexpected moments in an attempt to illicit responses from their design lecturers.

PROBLEM STATEMENT: Over the years, lecturers are always encouraging design students to do something out of the ordinary. However, how good are the lecturers themselves at expecting the unexpected?

OBJECTIVE: In order to design moments and engage people in unexpected ways, we are the medium and representation of the unexpected.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES: Reactions (caught-off-guard, surprised, flabbergasted, etc.)

TARGET AUDIENCE: Everyone.

To be continued…

Final project decisions (Week 12)

We had finally decided to do not just a normal video but a prank video….

Our lecturer Mr Charles gave us lots of ideas. I felt very productive that day 🙌. We are actually ‘designing moments’. We are the medium. How to create unexpected moments from a daily routine? Creativity skills needed. It’s an ongoing process.

I can’t say much just yet…. Stay tuned for more 😏

To be continued…

Final project (Week 10&11)

We will be doing a video for our final project, it will be a documentary of our journey throughout the entire semester of FID. After the briefing, we were split into 2 groups consist of 8 members.

My teammates :Melissa, Chloe, Jennifer, Vivian, Wenny, Felicia and Amira.

We will first  have to prepare a powerpoint slide on our video proposal, it must include  details like objectives and targeted audience.

To be continued….

PROJECT 1

ASSIGNMENT 1- POINTS & LINE

POINTS AND LINES ARE THE MOST BASIC ARCHITECTURE ELEMENTS. WITH A MINIMUM OF TWO POINTS, A LINE CAN BE FORMED. POINT INDICATES LOCATION AND LINE SHOWS LENGTH, DIRECTION AND POSITION.

P_20170213_194855.jpg

A PICTURE WAS FOUND ONLINE, WE THEN MARK ALL THE POINTS IN THE PICTURE AND LINK THEM UP USING A BLACK PEN. THIS CREATES A NEW FORM OF SPACE.

P_20170210_140451.jpg

WHITE THREADS WERE USED TO CREATE A CLEARER IMAGE AND ALSO ADDS A LITTLE TEXTURE TO THE IMAGE. (STILL IN 2D FORM)

P_20170210_140458.jpg

FOR THE LAST PICTURE WE USED NAILS TO NAIL ON TO THE POINTS WE CHOOSE AND THEN LINKING THE NAILS USING WHITE THREAD. THIS CREATES 3D RELIEF.

ASSIGNMENT 2- PLANE & VOID

PLANE- FLAT SURFACE WITH NO DEPTH. INDICATES LENGTH AND WIDTH. THERE ARE 3 TYPES OF PLANE- WALL PLANE, BASE PLANE, OVERHEAD PLANE

VOID- AN OPEN SPACE CREATED WITHIN THE PLANES. FUNCTION: VENTILATION, NATURAL LIGHTING AND ETC

FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT, WE HAVE TO CHOOSE A CITY MAP AND CREATE A MODEL ON IT. THIS ENCOURAGES US TO UNDERSTAND MORE ABOUT PLANES AND VOIDS. I CHOSE THE MAP OF BOSTON AND THE SHAPES OF THE PLANES WERE CREATED FROM THE MAP.

IT WAS A GOOD EXPERIENCE FOR ME. THE MOST CHALLENGING PART WAS THE MODEL MAKING. HIS ASSIGNMENT MAKES ME UNDERSTAND WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF PLANES AND VOIDS.

ASSIGNMENT 3- PROPORTION, SCALE & BALANCE

SCALE– OVERALL SIZE OR THE APPARENT SIZE OF AN OBJECT SEEN IN RELATION TO OTHER OBJECTS. FOR EXAMPLE PEOPLE & ENVIRONMENT.

PROPORTION– RELATIVE SIZE OR A CORRESPONDENCE AMONG THE MEASURE OF THE MEMBER OF THE ENTIRE WORK.

BALANCE -SYMMETRICAL & ASYMMETRICAL BALANCE
